Mark Manley is currently studying in the Photo Journalism and Documentary Photography program at the International Center of Photography in New York City. He grew up during the tumult of the Vietnam era and civil rights movement, and was deeply influenced by images seen in LIFE magazine, and photographers such as Larry Burrows, Bruce Davidson, and Robert Frank. Previous professional incarnations have included many years in mental health work and later a prolonged stint in corporate America. His photography now aims to join social activism with a humanist viewpoint, capturing public acts of motivation and passion, as well as the compelling details of personal gaze and gesture. Current personal projects include documenting New Orleans street musicians, the anti-war movement in America, and in particular the activist group, Grandmothers Against the War.
